kaja’s love of poetry and history was written in her blood, thanks to her estonian grandfather, arved viirlaid. her poetry was published for the first time when she was nine years old, and a second when she was twelve, the same year she won vancouver writers fest’s youth award for a short story contest. she continued a focused study in the humanities at a mini-school program in high school, where she graduated winning the anne beer humanities award. since then, she’s studied at capilano university and ubc in their creative writing programs.
kaja also worked under the rupaul’s drag race umbrella as a narrative designer for four years.
